Keep Me Online is a simple solution for all Macintosh users with dialup Internet access who are disconnected after being idle for a short amount of time. While preventing disconnections, the program displays news headlines and weather for many major US cities.
Keep Me Online has a very simple task: too replace you. Every minute, it loads another web page on the Keep Me Online servers so that your ISP believes that you are still working and does not disconnect you for being idle. This a common problem for dialup internet users. Many people find that it takes as long as 20 minutes before you can re-connect. The busy ISP keeps on giving busy signals. Your ISP does this so that they can free up busy phone lines and take on more users.
The Keep Me Online program should be launched when there is a need to maintain the connection while the user is away from the computer for a short amount of time. The program lasts for up to one hour and refreshes the screen with a new page every 60 seconds. If the user needs to quit the program before the hour is up, he may do so by simply making Keep Me Online the active program in the applications menu (on the right side of the menu bar) and pressing the command (apple) period (.)
Keep Me Online is very simple to install.
- Simply decompress the file kmol.sit with Stuffit Expander or any other decompression utility.
- Once the file is decompressed, I would recommend putting it in the Apple Menu Items Folder of your System Folder. This will make it easily accessible while using your web browser.
- Open the Internet Config program. Select the Helpers
button
- Then scroll down to HTTP. Double click on it.
- Select your preferred browser (if you have AOL and use the integrated browser provided by AOL then select the AOL application)
- Save and Quit Internet Config
- You are done installing Keep Me Online

Q. What is Keep Me Online?
A. Keep Me Online is a utility that spools your web browser through web pages on a special server so that your ISP (Internet Service Provider) believes that you are still surfing the web when you are away from the computer. This prevents them from disconnecting you from the busy phone lines so that other users can be connected.
Q. How Do I use Keep Me Online?
A. When you need to leave your computer for a period of time (up to one hour) start Keep Me Online. It will be effective for only one hour. After that you must restart Keep Me Online or you will be disconnected when your ISP decides to "bump" you off.
Q. What are the system requirements for Keep Me Online?
A. You must have a computer with OS 8.5 or later installed and you must have a Web Browser. Netscape and Internet Explorer, along with AOL, are compatible with Keep Me Online.
Q. Is their a version of Keep Me Online that works with 8.1 or earlier?
A. Not at this time. One will be available in the near future.
